Gabriela Houston is available for school events!

I offer author events and interactive workshops, most suited for KS2 and early KS3 pupils.

Author meeting and Q&A:

For author meetings I can talk to the children about becoming an author, Slavic mythology and my writing.

The Wind Child duology workshop:

Slavic Creatures, the helpers and the pests

During this workshop I talk to the children about folklore, and the community-building power of storytelling. Including a short reading, the workshop focuses on the different spheres of life and the Slavic creatures and spirits that inhabit each. The focus is on the ancient Slavic values inbuilt into the mythology, including mutual respect and empathy. After the interactive lecture, the children are asked to create their own creature of Slavic folklore.

“We have been very lucky to welcome the Polish author Gabriella Houston speak to our KS2 children about her new book ‘The Storm Child’ and prequel The Wind Child’. Many children have bought signed books! “

“”It was great to work with Gabriela to offer an author visit via Zoom to local primary schools. The visit was interactive, including Gabriela reading an extract from ‘The Wind Child’ and talking about her inspiration and background as a writer. The children were really interested and Gabriela answered their individual questions as well as helping them to feel inspired about their own writing. Gabriela was very easy to work with, quick to reply to emails and very friendly and helpful.”
